The total spending costs is based off of major modern wars involving the United States starting with World War I. The total spending and death counts do not count wars prior to then. All data is estimated and attempts to capture the total dollars spent and total deaths involved with each war. Most dollar estimates do not include costs of veterans benefits and interest paid for borrowing money to finance wars.

How Wars Are Funded

Trillions of dollars have been spent on modern warfare involving the United States. But even more money has been spent funding the wars. From government agencies, military defense funds, think tanks, and so on -- everyone has their hand in the jar taking advantage of people all over the world contributing to the deaths of millions. It's gotten so out of control that the Department of Defense has lost trillions of dollars that are unaccounted for, and yet the military budget continues to grow.
